Workshops will include the following sessions.

Ask-Listen-Encourage 9:00-11:30 (2.5 CTE)

  Do you communicate with youth in a way that makes them feel supported and heard?  This interactive workshop introduces various communication techniques that help you build more supportive, youth-centered relationships.  Participants will learn how to ask more effective questions, to listen actively to youth, and offer youth encouragement rather than praise.

This workshop offering is for PreK- through 12.

Avoiding Power Struggles with Youth (Youth Engagement) 9:00-11:30 (2.5 CTE)

Do you work with youth who sometimes can behave in ways that are disruptive, disrespectful, and sometimes dangerous to themselves? You or others? This workshop will focus on the understanding and importance of the function of the youth behavior (what is the youth trying to communicate) and behavioral interventions that work, including antecedents, consequences, incentives and proactive strategies and helping youth learn how to make appropriate choices.

Emotional Intelligence and ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences) 12:00-2:30 (2.5 CTE)

Recognize how emotional and adverse childhood experiences affect your behavior and health, assess life experiences and identify areas where you wish to do things differently, and negotiate and resolve disagreements. This will include hands on activities that can be used in early childhood and Out-of-School Time (OST) programs.

Overview of SEL 12:00-2:30 (2.5 CTE) Involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma. Trauma Informed Care (TIC) also emphasizes physical, psychological and emotional safety for both consumers and providers, and helps survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.

Family School and Community Relationship 2:45-4:45 (2.0 CTE)

 Learn techniques to create on-going positive interactions and effective partnerships between afterschool professionals and families and leaders who work with and on behalf of children and youth, and families.

Planning and Reflection 2:45-4:45 (2.0 CTE)

Are you engaging youth in the critical life skills of planning and reflection? Are you ready to be more intentional about including planning and reflection strategies into your daily routine and activities but not sure where to start? This workshop will introduce you to powerful and easy methods that can promote youth engagement in planning, implementing and evaluating activities and projects.
